The program focuses on practical, real-life skills that support young people as they build independence, navigate everyday life and start thinking about what comes next. Things like cooking on a budget, managing money, knowing your rights, getting job-ready, looking after your mental health, understanding consent, staying safe, finding a place to live and planning what comes next.
Each module is designed to be practical, youth-friendly and real. Some sessions are run as group workshops, while others can be worked through one-on-one, depending on what each young person needs and where they are at. The aim is not to rush everyone through the same way, but to support young people at their own pace so they can actually finish each step and take something useful from it.
Coming Up: Cheap Eats – Cooking on a Budget
Our next module is Cheap Eats: Cooking on a Budget, happening on Tuesday 4 June at Nimbin Youth Centre, from 4pm to 6pm.
This session is all about learning how to make food go further, eat well and cook simple meals without spending heaps – because Mi Goreng can’t be the whole food pyramid 😉
Young people will learn practical tips for cooking on a budget, making food last and staying healthy when money is tight. We’ll also be joined by the talented Tahlia ‘Tee’ from Nimbin Neighbourhood Centre, who has written a budget-friendly cookbook called ‘How to Survive on Centrelink‘
Tee will be running young people through a recipe on the night, with something they can make and take home.
